This is a sneak preview review of the Topeak MTX rack top bag. It has some excellent features that make it handy for commuters. It also has a decent locking mechanism to lock it to the top of the rack.
Unlike other rack top bags that use velcro to hold the bag to the rack, this bag uses velcro in addition to the locking clip as shown in the above photograph. This stops the bag from sliding forward or backwards which is common with other bags.
The clip is easy to operate and is designed for easy and quick removal.
Another feature of the MTX bag is the zip out side pannier pockets that transform it into a luggage pack. The zip out pannier pockets are held down by elastic hooks that attach to the lower rack leg hooks.
The bag also comes with a convenient carry strap that converts the bag into a convenient carry bag for those short excursions when off of the bike. This model did not have a raincoat or rainwater jacket, but the material seemed to have been waterproofed. Separate water jackets are available for it.
