Kalbarri to Perth, October 05 - Day 5

Today was an early start, as I'd need it to get the 140 kms back to home. On our way out on the first day, a lot of this road looked flat, but we had a feeling that we were going up hill. Riding back confirmed this, because even though I had a slight head breeze, I was still making good time and it felt downhill even though it looked flat.

I made it to Gin Gin roadhouse by about 10 AM, and stopped for second breakfast. They were repairing their roof where a truck driver, had tried to drive under it when his truck was too high. It had pushed the roof around and bent the roof supports.

After getting off of the highway and taking a back road to get back into Perth, I had to ride along Upper Swan road. It was a Saturday afternoon and Octoberfest at all of the Vineyards. Apart from a few assassination attempts it was a good ride. Running extremely low on energy, I stopped at a fruit store and brought some bananas and a load of jelly babies. I finally made it home by 4:00 PM after dodging pedestrians on the cycleway.

The bike behaved faultlessly, and I had no problems with it, except the bolts for the handlebars kept undoing themselves. They probably need some loctite in the threads. Because of the head wind, I've decided to get a lighter, road tourer with drop bars for my next trip.
