Shimano MO75 SPD Mountain Bike shoes

Because I'd switched from the the old toe strap system to an SPD type pedal, I thought I had better get myself some SPD shoes. Not liking cycling shoes with shoe laces because the laces get caught in the chain rings, I prefer shoes with velcro straps.

I also prefer multi release cleats, so this time I got a pair of Shimano SM SH-56 Multi release cleats at the same time. At the lower end of the price range of $125.00 (I have a limited budget) I thought I would try these out.

I purchased the shoes and cleats on line from Dean Woods in Melbourne. The reason I ordered them on line was that the local shops did not have my size in stock.

The Shimano SH MO75 MTB shoes have a durable and lightweight rubber tread which offers excellent traction and walking comfort. They also have a fiberglass reinforced nylon plate which increases the rider's stability. They are touted as an off road shoe.

The shoes have a stretch resistant nylon mesh area which offers good breathability. The bit that I like is the triple hook-and-loop straps. They are available in sizes up to 50. I required a size 46.

Coupled with the SH-56 multi release clips I found these shoes very good to ride in, especially without the worry of shoe laces getting caught in the chain rings. I did find that there was a bit of float in the SH-56 cleats. I am used to using the SH-55 multi release cleat. So I presume the SH-56 is a floating cleat.

This is fine with me as it gives me time to get used to riding in cleated shoes. I found that the shoes kept my feet warm in the cold breeze of winter, but allowed my feet to cool when they got too hot. I went off road with these shoes and found that on a gravel road the MO-75 shoe's grip was good when walking around off of the bike.

Having the recessed cleat makes it easy to walk around when off of the bike, and on tour these shoes could also couple up as casual shoes, thereby making it unnecessary to carry casual foot wear on tour with you.

I also found that when having to put a foot down from the bike in a hurry when riding off road, that the tread on the shoes felt very secure and there was not a feeling of slip that it present in other shoes or sneakers.
