Northhampton to Galena Bridge

This is a short guide as it is 39 kms from Northhampton to Binnu, then 10 kms to the Kalbarri turn off, and finally 13 kms to Galena Bridge. So it's a total of 62 kms from Northhampton to Galena Bridge. So if you were riding north, and left Geraldton, and weren't planning a side trip to Kalbarri, then the ride from Geraldton to Galena Bridge probably could be done in one day.

There is a store at Binnu, and several rest areas along this route. Some with picnic tables. The highway has some good areas of shoulder, and some really steep climbs. Make sure you have plenty of water when leaving Northhampton, which can be obtained at the Shire Caravan Park or any of the shops. To get out of Northhampton, just keep following the highway.

Hide/Show Map

If there is a good afternoon sea breeze blowing from the south west, then you may have some advantage by doing this part in the afternoon. Northhampton is really the last area of civilization that you will see for some days, so make sure that you have plenty of food and other supplies if heading north. There is a large clearing to pull off of the road at the Kalbarri turn off.

Galena Bridge

Just 13 kms north of the intersection of North West Coastal Highway and Ajana Kalbarri Road is the Galena Bridge, which crosses the Murchison River. It has a rest area and picnic spot. The water can be brackish in the Murchison River. It depends on whether there has been rainfall inland. Water has been reported as fine for cooking and there is a good campsite.

Next Stage

If heading South, the next section is Geraldton to Northhampton, and if heading North, the next section is Galena Bridge to Carnarvon.
