Perth to Dongara via Brand Highway
This list shows the water points for a cyclist heading north from Perth to Dongara on the Brand Highway. It is for use at your own risk. Some details may change over time. This list was current as of October 2005, having ridden the route myself. Depending on the route that you use to exit Perth, you will eventually end up passing Gin Gin. My route out of Perth was up West Swan Road, and onto Great Northern Highway. Shortly after turning onto Great Northern Highway, there is a road house on the left, where you can take on water.
I normally turn left at Warbrook road and then turn right onto Railway Parade, which is a much quieter route than Great Northern Highway. I rejoin the Highway, which is the Brand Highway at Muchea (approx pronounced Mewshay), which has a road house and store. I then head north to Gin Gin. This is where I will start the water points from, because there are several other routes out of Perth, that can bring you onto the Brand Highway near Gin Gin.
Gin Gin
When heading north, the last turn off into Gin Gin is Dewar Road on the right. There is a road house about 1 km from the turn off. The road house is on the left on Dewar Road heading away from the highway. The road house can be seen from the highway when heading north and is also sign posted. At the front of the roadhouse, is a picnic area, and there is a tap there as well. The road house also has a caravan park behind it, in case you wish to camp there.
Reagan's Ford
At Reagan's Ford when heading North, the Windmill Road House is on the left. There is also a caravan park behind it. This caravan park also has excellent cabins should you wish to stay there.
Cataby
Cataby has two road houses, both on the left when heading north. One is a popular stop for tourist coaches using the highway.
Badgingarra
When heading north, the road house and township is on the right. The road house is about 400 metres from the highway and can be clearly seen. There is also a caravan park behind the road house.
Halfway Mill Road House
On the right when heading north, where Coorow Green Head Road crosses Brand Highway. It also has a small caravan park.
Eneabba
When heading North, Eneabba is on the right. The football oval is opposite a road house. The oval has comfortable modern toilets, and a picnic area. In the picnic area is a tap, with a sign stating that the water is safe to drink. Eneabba also has shops and a caravan park. The road house also keeps 5 litre containers of spring water in the fridge, which is what I brought when I arrived as it was a hot day.
Drummonds Crossing
22 kms north of Eneabba, on right. Caravan Park only. Also called Western Flora Nature Reserve.
54 kms north of Eneabba
Picnic area. This picnic area is on the left when heading north, and has a sheltered picnic table, and an enviro toilet. There is no water. There is also some possible stealth camping areas out the back.
Picnic area 54 kms north of Eneabba.
